Companies do have to pay to be members of the Better Business Bureau, but they ensure through their rating system that companies provide honest advertising claims and settle any complaints they receive. Of course you can! Now, don’t start wheeling your charcoal grill into your screen room and throw a match in there or you might want to start dialing 911.   But, I’m serious; you can barbeque inside a screen room. After all, you are outside! Check out these photos of outdoor rooms where Heartlands has included a barbeque, or more descriptively, an outdoor kitchen. As long as building and fire codes are followed, you can enjoy outdoor cooking all year round and in all types of weather. Run a gas line to a built-in gas grill surrounded by non-combustible materials and vent it to the outside.   Add a granite counter top as work and serving space. Then, add extras like cabinets, drawers, refrigerator and decorative stone. You’ll want some task lighting as well, but then bring on the steak, kabobs, or whatever you’re cooking!

For a standard height single retractable screen door, our installed price is $450. The installed price on a set of standard height retractable screen doors for French doors is $800. There is a $40 up charge to get (pet resistant) super screen or solar screen and for taller doors, but there are no “special” installation up charge surprises. Yes, this price is higher than our competitors, but you have to consider you are not comparing equal products. The Clearview retractable screen doors come standard with a back plate (necessary for sliding door installations), hidden magnets inside the pull bar on French door applications, and most importantly, the built-in mechanical speed reducer. If you’ve ever experienced the “slam” when you accidently let go of the handle when operating a retractable screen door, you know what the “slam” is. It’s nice to know that if you, your guests or your kids let go of the handle, the screen will retract at a reasonable pace.

Another for the “I can’t believe that was in there!” files. Heartlands is remodeling an older home and as part of demo, a bathtub was removed. Underneath the old tub, we found this: Now, if you’re from St. Louis and you’re over 40, you will probably recognize it as a Falstaff beer bottle. The Falstaff brewery has been shut down for years, so this is definitely a blast from the past. The real question is, was that placed there before the tub was dropped in or did someone stuff it up there from the basement rafters in an effort to hide the fact that it had been consumed? We may never know, but it sure provided a few smiles and created a “buzz” around here!
